East and West CEO students spent Thursday morning with Katy Selmi and her son, Tate Downs (CEO 2021) at Selmi's Formal Wear located in Northland Mall. Tate's role involve a detailed business plan with 5 year goals, spreadsheets, numbers, finances, while Katy's strengths lie in the micro details, such as the customer experience, design, and creativity. Students heard many words to consider as they move forward with class and individual businesses: diversification, market research, inventory, differentiation, marketing channels, etc. We missed Mary Kay Downs (CEO 2025) this year who helps with inventory selection on buying trips, but is currently enjoying her freshman college experience!. Lastly, Tate overviewed making the most of the CEO experience and Katy discussed the challenges and rewards of partnering with family.
