Our next graduate spotlight from Mascoutah High School is David Winters.
After graduation, David will be attending SWIC to study in their industrial electricity program.
When reflecting on standout moments from the year, David shared how much he enjoyed the opportunity to learn from so many different people in our communities.
“A standout event or moment for me was the morning Meet and Greet. It’s such a unique experience to talk to all of these people who know so much.”
One of the biggest areas of growth for David this year was learning how to step outside of his comfort zone and connect with new people.
“A skill I developed through CEO was meeting new people. I rarely met new people before the class, and now I’m shaking hands with new people every day. Making connections through small talk is something I’ve also picked up.”
David admittedly came into the program with some anxiety and very little confidence in himself socially. Watching him continue showing up, pushing through uncomfortable situations, introducing himself to strangers, and growing more confident throughout the year has been incredibly rewarding to witness.
“This year, I grew in the area of confidence. I really struggled with confidence when I joined the class. While I am still not the most confident person, I have definitely improved.”
David also shared appreciation for his mentor, Bill Millikin, and the support he provided throughout the year.
“Bill Millikin has helped me through my personal business. He helped me change directions and pivot on some ideas. Even when I was not confident in myself, he was confident in me. I want to thank Bill for being an amazing mentor.”
David, your growth this year did not go unnoticed. We are proud of you for continuing to push yourself and overcome challenges that once felt impossible. Congratulations!
